The
history of the family that founded this unique place and that of
Gascony, have been linked for over eight centuries. The first member
of that family that settled in the south of France during the 12th
century founded the famous château. Over the next four hundred
years, he and his descendants left an indelible mark on the region.
Among them can be found Crusaders, local Consuls and they were instrumental
in building the fortification of the castle’s village. The
family was among the local notables who contributed to building
up the region, leaving us magnificent historic monuments such as
fortified castles and cathedrals and exciting legends. Later on,
his passion for adventure, creativity and a taste for the finest
pleasures in life, was inherited by one of the family descendant.
And it was this 16th century heir who is believed to have first
served Armagnac to his entourage in the great hall of the Château.
The existence of Armagnac was mentioned for the first time in the
region in the 15th century, thanks to the combined cask manufacturing
skills of the Gauls, the viticulture know-how of the Romans and
the distillation artistry of the Moors.
Around the beginning of the 20th century, our
family eventually acquired the Château and developed an Armagnac
brand, one of the oldest in the region (1855), and gave it
a high level status in French gastronomy. But things evolved; the
Armagnac brand does no longer exist. “Les
Vignes de Victoire” replaced the Armagnac production. The
vineyard produces, for the homestead, a superb Gascon white wine
- ugni blanc and colombard – used for the production of the
best Armagnacs ). Today, it can be tasted in our
former “chais”, transformed into huge and elegant
reception halls, offering a reputed location for festivities in
a pleasant and original setting.
